The Science of Bread Intro to Sourdough Bread-Making Workshop Hosted at Quail Hollow Ranch $75.00
In this introductory Sourdough class you will learn artisanal bread-making techniques such as care and feeding of your sourdough starter, bread proofing baskets, and bread cooking cloches. You will learn about the vital stages of the bread making process. We will discuss the types of flour and the chemistry of wheat, water and salt in dough formation. The bread made in this course will be easy to recreate. We will demonstrate a no-knead sourdough bread and discuss the science behind successful bread-making. You will taste a variety of breads and leave this course with all recipes and a sourdough starter.

The Science of Pickling Workshop Hosted at Simpkins Family Swim Center $55.00 plus $15.00 material fee
When you hear "pickles," you probably picture those classic crunchy dill pickles we all know and love. But there's so much more to the colorful world of pickling! You can pickle almost anything you want. Learn the Science of how to ensure that you're preserving your food safely and what and why a few additions make your pickles crunchy.
Class Overview & What's Included: -Welcome with a tasting of assorted pickles -Overview of ingredients, supplies and techniques -Step-by-step recipe instruction on fermentation and vinegar pickling (veggies vary by season) -Secrets for making crunchy, tangy pickles every time -Step-by-step instructions on home canning -What equipment you need, and what you can do without.
